Premise: The main character’s girlfriend is kidnapped, and she needs to hunt down the kidnapper and rescue her. Set in a fairy tale world—not too much emphasis is needed on this, it’s more so different levels can look slightly different.
Platform Game Inspiration:
Fancy Pants
For our game the story/game instructions is told through hovering text as seen in the image. Further story lore is told through some sort of sign post like in Fancy Pants. Standing in front of sign post makes a speech bubble appear and the player can read more about the story.
The art style is also quite simplistic and works well. So we can take some inspiration from this.
Celeste
Speech between characters as well as characters inner thoughts are told through pop up text as seen in the picture.
The Pretender
Just the general vibe of this game is good. The way the story unfolds between levels is also good.
Game Mechanics and Story Structure:
The story will require a minimum three characters: The main character (MC), her girlfriend and the kidnapper.
Think unpacking vibe—in that game if you're paying attention, you'll notice the main character gets a girlfriend but if you're not paying attention, it'll go over your head. Our game will have subtle/environmental story telling that'll also give us practice for our ghost game which'll be a similar vibe.
Idea: the player doesn't know the girl that gets kidnapped in the beginning is the main characters girlfriend and it's only revealed later when the main character is talking to someone from her past or something like that
